I cannot believe March is rolling along!!

Today I uploaded Pioneer Arabians website, all finished and I must say I am very proud of this site. It has been wonderful working on it with the most beautiful and dearest friend Melissa Longhurst. I cannot thank her enough for the opportunity to put this site together. Pioneer Arabians not only breeds beautiful Arabian horses but they also train and campaign horses for both the Australian & International Endurance market.

I have nearly finished preparing two canvas's. I am thrilled to be undertaking a cat portrait and a a portrait of a young woman and her horse, Sophie Gregory (a talented local horse woman, you can visit her site here: http://www.freewebs.com/sghorseservices/ ). I look forward to the gesso drying so I can get underway.

Design wise, I am still working on Taylor Made Horses website, I really am happy with the way this site is forming, hopefully it will be completed in another few weeks. I am also working on a logo for TANGO. (Toowoomba Agility & Novelty Groundwork Organisation) this is a fantastic and much needed addition to the equine sector & I am very proud to have been asked to design their logo. I have also been comissioned to create a website for Performance Park Arabians. It is going to be lovely putting this site together as it is home to my yearling foal's sire Bessona Santana. They breed crabbet and crabbet related horses suitable for all riding disciplines and ability. One other site I will be revamping as part of my donation to local sport and recreation is the website for Murrumba Endurance Riding Club.

The past few months have been rather busy & I look forward to the next few months being as productive.

Update of Work in Progress

In approximately another week I am hoping to finish Pioneer Arabians website. I am really excited about this site, I think it looks fabulous and is different to what I have created before. Working with Melissa has been great, I have learnt so much about their business and simply adored looking at all the photographs of their horses. Pioneer Arabians focus's their business on breeding beautiful athletes & personalised endurance training.   Will announce when the site is live..!

I have also recently finished working on a website for Groom Co. A Surrey Hills, NSW based business of an Award Winning Stylist and Men's Waxing Specialist.   It was a pleasure working with business owner James Annabel. You can check out his site here http://www.groomco.com.au/

I have a few other websites in the production line, I am also very excited about these. Will announce more as time goes on.    Seriously having withdrawls from painting !! Looking forward to painting my donation portraits soon and getting back to an original I have on the go!

Donation to the Tasmanian Arabian Riders & Breeders Association

Last year in May I was asked to donate a painting or a portrait to the Tasmanian Arabian Riders & Breeders Association to help with their fundraising.

I was wondering what on earth to paint, flicking through my well loved Arabian Horse mags I came across a spectacular photo of Clifton Park Nefisa, amazingly captured by the brilliant photographer Jennifer Ogden. I contacted David Gillett of Diamond Road Arabians, he said he would be very honoured for me to paint her, Jenni generously gave me her permission so this is what I came up with.. I only had a week to get a painting down to Tasmania so I had no time to procrastinate or make too many changes.

The Raffle was due to be drawn 16th January however this has now been postponed to the 6th March when the club will host their AGM. AHSA Flood Appeal Auction

I have donated two portraits to the AHSA Flood Appeal, the auction is run by Impressive Web Design & Arabian Online Magazine, it will be ending on the 15th February 2011. All proceeds to the flood appeal.

Appaloosa portrait finished

Last week I ventured down to Crik Hollow Endurance Stud, located approx 20kms out of Beaudesert. After 3 months the portrait was finally finished. Natalie commissioned the painting for her husband Chris' birthday present, it was of his beloved mare Billabong Ima Contessa who was sadly laid to rest a few months earlier. Regrettably I never got to meet this lovely mare in person, she was apparently one of those irreplaceable gems that will be deeply missed.

It was a lovely visit, loved meeting Natalie, Chris and Grace and seeing Natalie's new palamino colt Prince Caspian and her other beautiful horses & pets. I'm quite sad to see the portrait go as I don't think I have spent as much time painting on horse before, I really got used to having her in my studio.

Starting a blog is so similar to starting a painting. There are so many options that can leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed: what will the subject be?; will this interest the viewer?; what will the focal point me?; what about the layout?, what colours?, what medium to use.. ? Just like painting it is best to just jump in and get something on the canvas. :-)

Currently I only have one painting available for purchase. I seem to have been doing commission after commission so I have not had a great deal of time to paint original pieces. When I say original, I just mean it is something that comes from: my heart; my dreams or my imagination. A subject that may be identified by form but not by name... if that makes sense :)

Currently I am working on a portrait commission, it is a present for a birthday in January I cannot share too much. It is the most trickiest, mentally exhuasting painting I have ever under taken. If you are a fellow artist you will understand how difficult it is to have a reference photo that is out of focus, low resolution, taken on an overcast day... with no definition of light. The horse is an appoloosa so the coat is extremly difficult, in every photo the coat is a different colour.. the markings do not compliement the bone structure. To add that extra bit of frustration, I needed to include an eye which wasn't there...Talk about a challenge.. ! This mare was one in a million, a very special horse so I feel so blessed and honoured to be commissioned to paint her. When I am finished I will post some pics. With every challenge brings a new opportunity to learn!!

I have a few websites to start shortly so I look forward to getting those underway.. very exciting to be building one for an award winning hair dresser. The photo portfolio is spectacular!
